5 out of 5 stars Awesome Gas Grill!   September 6, 2010
Kzak
My Weber Genesis S-310 was delivered this past Friday so I left work early to come home to assemble it. I was a bit scared after reading other reviews of how difficult it was to assemble. I put it together in one hour with out a hitch. This thing is SOLID! Always loved Weber products. Now even more, especially after straying for the past 3 years with major disappointment with a big box brand grill. I would Highly reccomend this to anyone who wants to buy their last grill. Well worth the price. Happy Grilling......

5 out of 5 stars Weber Grill Review   July 21, 2010

We love our new Weber Grill. The biggest issue we had was the delivery of the wrong grill the first time from the shipper and then the hassle of getting the right grill sent out and the wrong grill actually picked up.

3 out of 5 stars a thin line   June 20, 2010

I have always been too cheap to spend $$$ for a stainless grill. My BIL has had the same Weber for 10 years and I go through $299 gas grills every 3 years while my Weber kettle has lasted 30, so I figure, why not. Now I know why the cheap grills I was buying keep breaking. The thing with this grill is that the burners are totally protected from dripping grease and low ph ash by the flavorizer bars so your food is never exposed to live fire unless you wind the grill all the way up so drips onto the flavorizer bars ignite. At this temperature, keep an eye on your food.

The rotisserie accessory is a piece of crap. Even if you pull the grill grate off, you can only do a skinny little chicken on the sorry thing and it was not cheap.

The smoker box costs an arm, but doesn't really work that well as it is located on the far left side of the grill box.

The assembly was kind of difficult, no words only pictures.

So much for the cons

A beautiful grill, it gets super hot and can also get down to the low 200s which is a huge win. The smoker box is highly recommended to supplement the lack of live fire flavor. The electric start is also wonderful. Another plus is that this may be the last gas grill I will ever buy, but I am going to keep my Weber kettle charcoal unit to cook for company. The food that comes off this thing is just not that special.

5 out of 5 stars Weber Genesis S-310   June 3, 2010

15 years ago I made a bad decision when I decided Weber gas grills were just too expensive. Instead, I bought a succession of low-cost grills which generally failed in a few years. The worst of the bunch was the most recent one, a Sure-Heat brand Tuscany model bought at a popular member's warehouse store. It barely made the two year mark before all three SS burner tubes had developed pencil diameter holes in them, leading to impressive gouts of flames shooting 8" out the sides of each.

Now, finally, I've done what I should have 15 years back, when I balked at replacing my trusty old 18 1/2" Weber Kettle (charcoal) with a Weber gas grill. Despite the Weber Genesis being significantly costlier than other brands, I think of all the burnt offerings and half-cooked entrees I've served over the years and realize that the lower cost grills have proven to be a false economy. But now no more! I am the proud owner of a new Genesis S-310. What follows are my early impressions:

Free Shipping and Delivery;
To begin with, Amazon again exceeded my expectations on delivery. I placed my order on May 21st and it arrived 6 days later on Thursday (May 17th), a day earlier than promised. I¡¯m also totally satisfied with ABT Freight, the freight shipper used for this delivery. On the appointed day, the ABT Freight truck pulled up (having the day before confirmed it would be convenient) with the 175 lb shipping box containing my new beauty. The driver not only unloaded it at the curb, but happily wheeled it up the driveway to my selected spot in the garage with his pallet jack. In 97¢ª heat!

Model Choice;
I upgraded my initial preference for the enamel-painted E-310 to the stainless steel S-310 model because I wanted the stainless cooking grates and flavorizor bars. I wasn¡¯t interested in paying $40 more for a rarely-used side burner, so I chose Model #310 over #320. I learned only after ordering that I could have saved almost $100 more by ordering the enameled version WITH stainless guts. Oh, and by the way, from the heft and bar diameter of the SS cooking grates, I can't imagine ever having to replace them. I'm glad I went this way instead of the less expensive porcelain coated iron. Much better!

Assembly took;
- 25 min. to open, unpack, inventory and lay out parts (lay bright work out on a padded blanket to protect surface finishes).
- 2 hrs 10 min to assemble and then test for gas leaks with soapy water.
- 10 minutes to gather up packing material and take to the curb.
- 2 screw drivers (1 Philips and 1 flat blade), a 1/4" drive and socket set, and 1 std box wrench (throw out the "wrench" shipped with the grill. If you don't already own a 1/4" drive and socket set, this is the excuse you've been looking for to buy one.
This isn¡¯t rocket surgery, you brain scientists! I have arthritis and - with the simple removal of the clevis pins so I could take off the hinged lid to, lighten the oven/burner assembly so I could lift it out of the box - found that it readily went together as directed. FIRST HINT: carefully pre-read the illustrated assembly instructions. When you unpack the box, group similar size/type fasteners together. The assembly illustrations don't make a big deal of it, but PAY ATTENTION TO THE PICTURED PARTS LIST at the beginning of each step! It not only lists the number of the fasteners needed for each, but also indicates (thru shading) whether you use silver or black finished bolts, and silver metal or dark nylon washers. Attention here saves subsequent disassembly to replace a wrong choice later. SECOND HINT: I found one oversight in the assembly illustrations. Step #1 correctly indicates 6 black bolts (shaded in the illustration) and 6 silver washers (unshaded in the illustration) will be needed for this step, but the detailed blow-up only indicates four washers actually being used (on the front frame support assembly). In fact, the other two washers are used when bolting on the rear frame support in the first part of this step.

Cons:

Only one complaint and that concerns the protective plastic film protecting shiny panels and trim. It's the same film put on hoods, roofs, and trunks of new cars during shipment. It can be hard to remove without leaving little torn pieces trapped and visible where trim meets panel on the front doors. I ran into significant stains on one of the doors from the misapplication of this film. Unsuccessfully trying several solvents to remove these marks, I called Weber Customer Support for ideas. Theirs was simpler and more direct; they shipped replacement doors (they come in pairs), no questions asked. Again, Weber and Amazon should both be recognized for having mastered the art of outstanding customer service.

We've now used our new grill 5 out of the last 7 days, and we've enjoyed perfectly grilled steaks, lamb chops, salmon filets, chicken pieces, and stuffed pork loin chops. If you can read, you can cook with this grill. It's good to be "back home" again with a familiar brand that I know and trust. Now it's onward to beer can chickens and beef roasts forever!
